Universal Digital Access for Local Voices: Peacro Technologies Builds OpenPost
In an era where digital communication shapes both economy and culture, having a platform to share ideas should not be limited to a privileged few. Yet across many Zimbabwean communities, independent writers, small businesses, schools, churches and creators face the same hurdles. Building a website is costly, attracting readers is difficult, and local voices are drowned out by global social media algorithms that don’t care about Nyanga, Rusape or Chimanimani.
To address this challenge, Peacro Technologies Africa (Pvt) Ltd has built OpenPost. It is a community-driven publishing and video platform designed to democratise access to media, so that every community in Zimbabwe can tell its own stories.
Fulfilling a Core Mission: Universal Digital Access
OpenPost directly supports Peacro Technologies Africa’s overarching mission: ensuring universal access to digital platforms, services and economic opportunities for all.
Whether through connectivity in remote areas or modern publishing systems, Peacro Technologies builds technology that meets communities where they are. OpenPost puts that commitment into action. It is a shared digital press club and town square where cost and technical skills no longer stop local voices from being heard.
“Universal access isn’t just about internet connectivity. It’s about access to platforms that give people a voice, an audience and a lasting digital footprint,” states the Peacro Technologies team. “We built OpenPost so that any writer, small business, school or creator in Zimbabwe can publish professionally and be found by the people around them.”
Democratising Local Content
Most local stories never reach a screen. A school’s prize-giving, a new shop opening at a growth point, a church’s community project or a farmer’s harvest update: these stories shape daily life but rarely make national headlines.
On OpenPost, local is the point. Every story, video and event is linked to a real place and a real community. Readers find what matters near them, and good stories rise because people read them, not because someone paid to promote them.
What OpenPost Offers
1. For Independent Authors, Columnists and Creators
- Built-in audience: instead of spending months driving traffic to an isolated blog, writers reach a central, growing readership from day one.
- Professional authority: each author gets a profile page and a byline with their photo, job title and organisation, hosted on a trusted .co.zw domain.
- Streamlined publishing: submit articles, opinion pieces, local news and specialist insights without any web development skills.
- Reader support: readers can support their favourite writers through a Support button, and the money goes directly to the author.
2. Spaces: A Home Page for Businesses, Schools, Organisations and Creators
A Space is your own professional page on OpenPost, and there are four kinds:
- Businesses: shops, lodges, salons, contractors and service providers
- Schools: primary and secondary schools, colleges and training centres
- Organisations: churches, clubs, NGOs, associations and community groups
- Creators: musicians, artists, podcasters, photographers and personalities
Each Space includes:
- your logo, cover photo, description and location
- one-tap WhatsApp, Call and Website buttons
- opening hours with a live “Open now” badge
- a Verified tick, once OpenPost confirms you are genuine
- team writing, so your staff, teachers or members can publish stories under your name
Each Space page works like a channel, with tabs for Home, Stories, Videos, Shows, Events and Notices. Visitors see who you are, what’s coming up and your latest news at a glance.
The benefit: a credible online presence with no website to build, no hosting to manage and no technical skills needed. Customers, parents and members can find you, trust you and contact you in one tap.
3. Events and Notices
Spaces can post upcoming events, such as open days, services, launches, workshops and sports days. They appear on the Space page and on OpenPost’s community events calendar.
Spaces can also post short notices, such as “Office closed on Monday” or “School fees deadline extended”. Notices disappear on their own when they expire.
The benefit: post once instead of printing posters or forwarding the same message to fifty WhatsApp groups.
4. Watch: Local Video, Played Right Here
OpenPost has its own video section, Watch. Creators and Spaces can upload videos straight to OpenPost, and they play right on the page, with no sending viewers off to other apps and no sign-in walls.
- Shows, seasons and episodes for video podcasts, interview series, weekly sermons, school programmes and talk shows, each with its own show page and episode list
- Most watched this week, so popular local content rises
- videos browsable by type of creator and by town or province
The benefit: a business can show its products, a school its events, a church its services and a musician their performances, all on their own channel to a local audience.
5. For Readers and Communities
- Hyper-local news: browse by province and town to see the stories, businesses, schools, events and videos from your area.
- Diverse perspectives: instead of one editor deciding what you read, OpenPost brings together voices from across Zimbabwe and the diaspora.
- Trending this week: see what Zimbabweans are reading and watching right now.
- Join the conversation: like and comment on stories, search across the platform and subscribe to the newsletter.
- Light and fast: built for mobile phones and low data, so you can stay informed without using up your bundles.
Get Started on OpenPost
OpenPost invites independent columnists, guest contributors, community writers, businesses, schools, organisations and creators from every field to share their work: business, technology, sports, lifestyle, arts, faith, education and civic commentary.
- Writers and columnists: a small monthly membership gives you full publishing rights, editorial support and a direct path to growing your personal brand.
- Spaces: a launch offer of $5 covers you until 31 December 2026. After that, a Space costs $3 a month or $25 a year. One paid Space covers your whole team writing for it.
The Future We See
We believe the next chapter of Zimbabwe’s media will be written not only in newsrooms in the capital, but by teachers, pastors, farmers, shop owners, students, musicians and local journalists telling the stories of their own communities.
Our vision is for OpenPost to become a digital town square for every town in Zimbabwe. That means:
- small businesses can be found as easily as big brands
- schools and churches stay connected with families at home and in the diaspora
- local creators earn from their work
- shows and podcasts made in Zimbabwe find audiences on a platform built for local networks and data costs
That is what universal digital access means to us: not just getting people online, but making sure their voices, their businesses and their communities are seen and heard.
