About
Nyanga Arts Centre is a community arts centre in Nyanga, in Zimbabwe’s Eastern Highlands. It brings together the sculptors, musicians, potters, dancers and crafters of Nyanga and the surrounding communities.
For many years the Centre was neglected. Today a local committee is working to revive it and bring it back to the people of Nyanga and beyond, as a place where artists can create, show and sell their work, and where visitors can meet them.
What you’ll find here:
• Sculpture – stone and wood carvings by local artists
• Traditional music – mbira, ngoma (drums) and other instruments
• Pottery – handcrafted clay works and traditional pottery-making
• Dance – traditional and contemporary performances
• Crafts – basketry, weaving, beadwork, paintings and more
Our aims:
1. Put the Centre back on the map as a hub for art, culture and tourism in Nyanga
2. Give local artists a platform to reach buyers, partners and institutions
3. Inspire young people to develop and earn a living from their creative talents
4. Preserve our culture, skills and stories for future generations
5. Use art to raise awareness about protecting Nyanga’s wildlife and natural environment
